Auto Control Temp Head Digital- why does it come off and on?

Before replace the auto temp control head on the car, I was curious to know why it sometimes works and why sometimes it doesn't come on? Why causes it to do this? Thanks!

This is for a 95 LH body right? I have the same problem. For what ever reason these seem to have a high failure rate. I have had two in my 95 LH. There is some form of internal failure that happens but I don't know what it is. I just know that it is not rare.
