Curriculum: An Integrative Introduction, 3rd Edition $89.95 Defining curriculum broadly, as "what is taught in schools," this practical text arranges content around two major themes: 1) curriculum processes involve decision making by people who are guided by their beliefs and values about what students should learn; and, 2) curricular change occurs only after individuals have made internal transitions. Unlike its competition, this text painstakingly bridges curriculum theory to practice, exploring ways to develop curriculum, implement a curriculum plan, and assess a school's curriculum by applying chapter content to sample curriculum projects. Through accessible, jargon free language and student friendly pedagogy, the author shows both how practice informs theory and how use of theory helps educators engage in curriculum tasks appropriately. Features include: Introduction of the School Evaluation Model Familiarizes students with the use of this new model and showcases its value for assessing needs, problems, and opportunities involved in curriculum development. A For Additional Information Section Provides suggested readings and Web site urls and helps students identify reliable sources of both printed and electronic information. Chapter Opening Framework Serves as an advanced organizer for professors and students. A Strong Focus on Instructional Level Curricula Encourages prospective teachers to collaborate on curricula construction and advocates for curricula that meet the needs of learners and communities, as well as the demands of academic standards. Use of the Revised Bloom's Taxonomy Highlights the goal of strong cognitive processes, rather than behaviors and helps students internalize the meaningful learning requirements of state/national professional standards Updated Material on Technology Including discussion of the creation and use of Web Quests, inquiry oriented activities based on information gleaned from the World Wide Web and the Internet. Engages Today's Computer Savvy Prospective Teachers Bolsters novices' confidence in using computer resources in the classroom. Author: Evelyn J. Sowell Published: May 2004 ISBN: 0131112910 352 Pages |

Practical Drafting™ Applied Engineering Graphics Workbook $26.95 Practical Drafting uses the proven, hands on, self study methods used in the Complete A Sketch series and is reproducible as it applies. The student learns by observing, reasoning, and doing real work. Practical Drafting is geared to be used by students without outside instruction. The basic intent of Practical Drafting is to introduce students to the basic principles of drafting and to awaken the student to the possibilities of career options. Drafting is just one tool that is used in many different engineering, construction, and technical fields. Drafting alone will probably not be a career. However, it will always be a part of technical work. Being able to draw without a computer is an important skill for life, even if the student does not go into a technical field. Practical Drafting is a book that can help direct, change, or set a career path for your student. The work is designed to help and to promote the use of hand and computer drafting skills. All the lessons in this book may be accomplished both by hand and on the computer with CAD software. Practical Drafting exposes the student to many types of drafting and standards. Drafting is the language of engineering. In the engineering field today, it is imperative that all participants, drafters, designers, engineers, machinists, electricians, builders, etc., must understand this language. It is my strong recommendation that the student do the lessons by hand using tools of the trade. Then, after being comfortable with manual drafting, complete the lessons with CAD software on a computer. The skills learned in this book will benefit for life regardless of final career choices. The concepts and principles in this book apply to drafting & design, not just to manual or CAD work. Practical Drafting focuses primarily on the most critical drafting areas. The goal is to assist the student in mastering some drafting concepts and the art of drafting. These concepts will apply to using CAD and in other professional and personal projects. User may make copies of some lesson sheets for self use. Written and illustrated by Melvin G. Peterman. Specifications: Age / Grade: 13 and up / Junior High through High School Format: 8 1/2 x 11, paperback Binding: Spiral, lay flat Pages: 136 Lessons: 101 ISBN: 0 97220583 7 |
