the book is by Vine Deloria, a nakota man. it is one of the first books written by a native author that tells the truth about what the government has done and continues to do to indigenous people. for the vast majority of non natives it was the first time they were made aware of the ways the government continued to oppress us. it was the first time we had a voice ....and people listened. that is why the book has its place in history.
